PETER BOROUGH'S PHOENIX NIGHTS
You've heand of Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights, well local comedy club King Knuts is fast turning into 'Peter Borough's Phoenix Nights'

In its first show at Ebeneezers since moving from the Tara Suia, resident compere John Elson got the crowd warmed up for the evening's festivities with such gems as "Have you ever noticed al the children in Postman Pat all look the same as him? What's he been posting through peoples letterboxes?"

With The Blue Genies’ house band providing a belated ‘der-dum tsh' drum roll, the compere bevond compare was on a role at he introduced Jamie Randall, a young singer songwriter who belted out an impressive range of original songs on his guitar.

The first comic of the night, Lou Chawner, was back by popular demand. His comedic style was like Ed Byrne meeting Frank Skinner backstage at an Ozzy Osbourne gig - cool, crude, and f****** funny.

John then introduced Brian Tamplin, a former Elvis impersonator who treated the audience to a display of lap-steel guitar playing. After a short interval, the three piece band LEON took to the stage, and nearly took the roof off with a blistering set of bitter-sweet cover versions and their bass player also did a great impression of Monty Pythons ‘The Life of Brian', when singer Adam had cracked a bad joke. "He’s not our lead singer linger... he's a very naughty boy."

After an encore, it was back to comedy with Ade Freeman who had to contend with some heckling from the back – “That’s the trouble with bringing my brother to a gig, he never behaves himself”.

The stage was then set for Andy White - the headline comedian who certainly has a head you don't forget in a hurry. Andy is instantly recognisable partly because he won a comedians special on The Weakest Link' a few months ago, but more due to his oversized afro that has to be seen to be believed. He opened his act with - "I know what you're thinking. That kid from Diff’rent Strokes has grown up a bit," and the laughs kept coming.

The next monthly show is on Sunday April 3, so check out www.knuts-dub.co.uk for more details... and go on, live the dream!

Comedy at the new king of clubs

A NEW club night is set to hit the city next month.
The Tara Suite, above the Solstice in Northminster, Peterboorough, is the venue for Knut The King of Clubs.
Organiser John Elson is planning to feature prominent comedy acts. He said, "The difference with our club to previous ones is that alongside the comedians we will feature local bandsand novelty acts. In the first three months I have got a juggler, a mind reader and a contortionist. The idea is that the audience never gets a chance to be bored."
The first night, on Sunday, September 5, is set to feature local bands Stand Alone and Sidearm as well as comic Les James.
The club will be opening at 8pm. Keep reading The Guide for more details.
